Police News

Detling and Thurnham's Monthly Update.

We can all do that little bit extra to protect ourselves from becoming a victim.

Car Crime - On my patrols I walk past many vehicles that have valuables on show, the main one being Sat Nav's. We often place leaflets on these cars reminding these people that by doing this they are making themselves appeal to criminals and are drawing them to your area and other vehicles.
Don't give these criminals an easy ride, buy yourself a little box and when you return home put ALL your items in your box and take them indoors. If criminals can't see anything worth stealing they are less likely to risk breaking in your vehicle and getting caught.

Burglaries - Please remember these happen just as much during the daytime as they do during the evening. When you go out lock ALL windows and doors, that extra minute checking you have done this could save a lot of heartache further down the line. If your having work done on the property, try and keep your materials out of sight and remember to lock away ALL tools.
For those of you who use sites like facebook, don't advertise the fact that your going away for holidays or weekends, you may think you have set up your security appropriately on these sites but technology can also can wrong and encounter errors.

Outer Buildings like garages and sheds - If you have items of value in the outer buildings then it is worth protecting them properly. Buy good, strong, sturdy locks and chains, look at alarms and lighting. Be careful when your talking about these items in public places, you never know who else is listening. Where your garage or shed is on public view, try to keep the doors shut so that criminals driving past don't get an opportunity to see what items you have locked away in these outer buildings and always lock them back up when you walk away as some of these criminals are opportunists.

For those of you that have access to the internet I strongly recommend you take 5 minutes to look at the below website, It is something we strongly recommend and can be purchased by This site directly or from Kent Police. Please also remember that we offer UV equipment marker pens but the Smart Water Kit is much more unique and secure.
If you cannot access the Internet but would like to know more about smart water, trackers and marking your equipment please feel free to contact us at the station.

Yours sincerely
